Sleep and Snore Appliances

At Sachem Dental we fabricate a snoring prevention device called “Silent Night”.

Estimates show that more than 80 million people in North America snore while sleeping. This also affects spouses and children who can be disturbed by the snoring family member and this can lead to tension and animosity.
When patients snore they struggle to breath and this can affect blood pressure during sleep. By prescribing the Silent Night, dentists can provide most patients with cost effective snoring relief.

What causes snoring?

When people sleep, the muscles and soft tissues in the throat relax. This makes the breathing airway smaller and therefore air moves through the passageway with increased velocity. When the velocity of the air increases, the soft tissues of the uvula and soft palate vibrate. It is this vibration that we commonly refer to as snoring.
Medicine and Dentistry have tried surgical techniques to reduce snoring. These supposed surgical remedies have only shown moderate success.

For many “snorers”, the most affordable, non-invasive, comfortable and effective snoring solution is a dentist prescribed snoring preventative device such as the Silent Night.

How Does the Silent Night Prevent Snoring?

Snoring research shows that dental devices worn at night can move the lower jaw into a forward position. This effectively increases the 3 dimentional space in the airway and thus reduces air velocity and vibration of soft tissues in throat.
By increasing the volume capacity of the airway and preventing soft tissue vibrations, snoring is eliminated.
The Silent Night device positions the lower jaw into a forward position by means of special connectors that are attached to transparent flexible upper & lower form. The forms are custom laminated with heat and pressure to the dentist’s model of the mouth.
