Traditional Invisalign orthodontic cases typically straighten your smile in about the same amount of time as (or slightly less than) conventional braces. But there are some instances where “fast” Invisalign braces options are appropriate to enhance the appearance of your smile, with results in as little as six months or even less.
Understanding Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment
Typically, it takes anywhere between 12-18 (and sometimes 24) months to straighten your entire smile. That’s because each of the teeth need to be adjusted to fine-tune the overall biting relationship between the upper and lower jaws. Certain teeth need to be moved before others. It’s a systematic and carefully designed process so that your entire smile benefits from improved alignment.
Moving all of your teeth too quickly could result in unwanted side effects. Fortunately, you can still get quick results from Invisalign if you don’t require full-mouth orthodontic treatment and only a few teeth need to be adjusted.
How Short-Term Invisalign Works
Accelerated Invisalign treatment focuses on a specific part of your smile, rather than the entire mouth. The goal is to cosmetically enhance the way your front teeth look when they’re visible. Essentially, we’re focusing the tooth alignment process on your front teeth, instead of all of them.
Cosmetic Invisalign treatments can provide safe aesthetic results in as little as 3-6 months for some of our Long Island Invisalign patients.
When is Accelerated Invisalign Appropriate?
Short-term Invisalign treatment is best for situations like:
Minor Tooth Movement—“Fast” braces and aligners are designed for aesthetic situations where only minor adjustments are needed in your smile. These systems are typically cosmetically driven, rather than functionally.
Orthodontic Relapse—If you had braces in the past but didn’t wear your retainers, a few of your teeth may have shifted out of place. A shorter Invisalign series can put things back where they need to be.
One or Two “Problem” Teeth—Do you have a couple of front teeth that are gapped, crooked, crowded, or twisted? Depending on the space available to work with, a short-term aligner treatment can easily correct the issue.
Healthy Overall Jaw Alignment—If your jaws don’t fit together properly it can lead to TMJ disorder and irregular wear patterns throughout your mouth. But assuming your back teeth line up nicely and you only need to fine-tune a few in the front, six month Invisalign treatment may be all that you need.
Is Short-Term Invisalign Right for Me?
Invisalign orthodontic aligners are safe for adults and teens of all ages. But everyone’s smile is unique. To find out how long your Invisalign treatment will take or if “fast” clear aligners are an option, you’ll need to start out with an exam with a certified Invisalign provider.
At Sachem Dental Group, we’ll evaluate your bite to determine the complexity of your orthodontic needs. If an accelerated, short-term aligner option is right for your smile, we can let you know right away.
