Our Long Island dentists offer several different cosmetic dental procedures, including dental bonding, which may be the perfect fit for addressing that “bothersome” tooth.
What Is Dental Bonding?
Tooth bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that is performed on the teeth that are visible when you smile. Essentially, bonding covers surface flaws in teeth so that they look whole and healthy. This procedure can be used on a single tooth or multiple teeth. To get the full effect of what dental bonding can do for you, we may recommend that you have us bond your tooth in conjunction with things like whitening, fillings, or crowns.
Dental bonding material is available in a variety of different shades and will be pre-selected to blend in with your smile. If only bonding one or a few teeth, we will likely match to your natural tooth color, however, if we’re performing a complete smile makeover we can brighten your smile by selecting a whiter shade when necessary.
During your bonding procedure, our Suffolk County dentist may first need to slightly roughen the surface of your tooth to help the bonding material adhere better.
Next, we’ll place a special solution onto the tooth to prep it for the bonding material.
Once the teeth are prepped, we’ll proceed by shaping a soft composite resin over the tooth. After expertly molding the material to the desired shape, we’ll shine a special blue light on the composite which will harden it instantly, permanently curing it to your tooth.
After a final shape-up and polish, you’ll be ready to show off your new smile.
Reasons To Get Tooth Bonding
- Fix chipped teeth: Rather than having a veneer or crown placed on a tooth to repair a chipped area, dental bonding can cover smaller areas on specific teeth.
- Cover stress fractures: Thin, superficial cracks and hairline fractures along the enamel can be covered up in just one appointment.
- Cover up discolored enamel: Deep stains that can’t be bleached or buffed out can be improved with dental bonding by covering up specific dark spots.
- Close in spaces between gapped teeth: Closing in a gapped smile doesn’t mean you need to have braces. Dental bonding can close in certain spaces between teeth for a more appealing smile.
- Fast results: Unlike veneers, tooth bonding only requires one appointment complete. Having same-day results (rather than waiting a couple of weeks like you would with veneers) is a huge advantage that many patients love.
- Affordable: Tooth bonding is a less expensive alternative to porcelain veneers.
